Poi Rogers and Patti Maxine

Make reservations at bit.ly/evwevents to see POI Rogers and Patti Maxine Saturday August 3rd from 4 to 7 PM.

Somewhere in-between the tropical lounges of 1930s Los Angeles and the honky tonk beer joints of rural 1950s California, you'll find Poi Rogers. Hailing from Santa Cruz, CA, the duo performs original and vintage country & western swing, Hawaiian steel guitar ballads and cowboy tunes.

Gerard Egan and Carolyn Sills just won a 2024 Ameripolitan Award in Austin, TX, for Western Swing Group of the Year with their other group, The Carolyn Sills Combo. They are both inductees into the Sacramento Western Swing Hall of Fame, and Carolyn was named the Academy of Western Artists 2021 Western Swing Female Vocalist of the Year. Poi Rogers features Gerard doubling on acoustic guitar and his 1954 Fender triple neck steel guitar with Carolyn on standup bass, their timeless harmonies anchoring the show. www.poirogers.com

Rupert Wates & Patti Maxine FOLK, AMERICANA, OUTSTANDING SONGWRITING AND PLAYING FRIDAY AUG 9, 7.00PM (DOORS@6.30PM)$25ADV/$28DOOR

Rupert Wates is English but has been called “a prime figure in American music” (acousticmusic.com). A full-time musician since the 90’s, he came to the US in 2006 after a 5-year stint in Paris, including his own jazz group. He now splits his time, when not on the road playing (120 performances a year), between NY City and Colorado

Rupert’s music is folk with jazz and cabaret influences. All of his many CDs have received very positive reviews. The quality of his writing is clearly demonstrated by the fact that many other performers cover his material (20 in 2016 alone), including two tribute CDs devoted entirely to his songs. He has twice been voted “artist of the year” by the International House Concertnetwork (concertsinyourhome.com), and has won over 40 songwriting and performing awards

“Narrative storytelling is superb – even by the highest folk music standards”…..Orlando Sentinel

Santa Cruz “Queen of Steel”, Patti Maxine, won her first steel championship some 60+ years ago! She is a major force in Western Swing, Hawaiian, and Americana music. She is also no slouch on guitar and as a vocalist, and is always in demand to accompany others from the young to “very seasoned”. Patti has played The Ugly Mug more times than anyone else, over a 15-year period. She is currently one third of Jazz The Dog
