Patti Maxine - "Being 80" documentary plus opening set by Patti

(Bob Gliner, 2024, 56 min, Santa Cruz County, USA)

This local documentary was shown on PBS in February and showcases a diverse range of vibrant, unique and memorable 80 year olds still finding meaning in their lives through long lived career choices contradicting the stereotype that their minds and bodies are obsolete in a world where only younger generations can make the world work.

Speakers: Bob Gliner (http://www.reelwork.org/speakers.htm#Gliner), filmmaker; Cathy Cress (http://www.reelwork.org/speakers.htm#Cress), gerontologist.

In this intimate concert Rags and Patti will play both together and separately.

Saturday, May 18th, 7.00pm (doors open at 6.30pm); $25 adv / $28 door

Rags Rosenberg is a songwriter and poet. He explores the mysteries of love and family, and offers wry reflections on life's big questions. His inspiration and adopted name "Rags" come from what W.B. Yeats called, "The foul rag and bone shop of the heart." Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Rumi, and David Whyte are primary influences.

Rosenberg is the author of the poetry collection Raised in the Shadow. His poems have appeared in Black Moon, Hudson View, and other poetry journals. Rosenberg currently lives in Carmel by the Sea. He is the Hofsas House Hotel´s 2024 Artist in Residence. "Rags writes melodic music for mature people. His style is reminiscent of the music of Leonard Cohen." - Craig Boyer, KKRN, 88.5 Round Mountain, California www.ragsandbonesmusic.com

Patti Maxine needs no introduction in the Santa Cruz area, where she is known as "The Queen of Steel". As a lap steel virtuoso and vocal stylist, she has probably played in more concerts at The Ugly Mug than any other musician. She can play in any style and is sought after by visiting and local groups ranging from punk rock to Hawaiian and everything in between, as well as being a member of Jazz The Dog.
